Moments We Remember
One year ago today, a few things happened. Most of the world remembers it as the day Russia invaded Ukraine. I will remember it as the start of Steph's leukemia battle and our first day at UW Medical Center.
Steph wrote this blog post earlier in the day.
We spent some time last night thinking of all the things God has brought us through. I have quite a stack of cards that I’ll take with me, to remind me how faithful God has already been. Most of those situations I didn’t see any good options, but we look back and see He did great things.
One of the best anniversary cards Brandon ever gave me had a picture of a couple holding hands, and jumping off a cliff. Often our circumstances through our marriage have felt like that, who knows where we will land. But, we leap out in faith, and we know God will catch us in the free fall.
I am still falling, but my faith is even stronger as I have seen Him catch my best friend.
My most vivid memory of that day one year ago, is a mental snapshot of Steph. She had just changed into that terrible hospital gown seen on the bed above. She was getting the sheet situated and in that moment, she was the most beautiful that I had ever seen her. I would attempt to describe what I saw, but finding the right words would be imposible. I remember telling her, "You are so beautiful." and having her give me the "I'm wearing a hospital gown" look. The snarky look, I loved so much. That is the mental snapshot that I will always reflect on until I too am caught from the free fall of this world.
