Day 33: Home Sweet Home
After 20 days in the hospital, Steph was discharged yesterday, September 4th. This also happened to be the day that my cousins Ray and Kristi where back in town from their anniversary Alaskan cruise. We were able to swing by my aunt and uncle's home straight from the hospital to see them and have a short visit with family. Kristi was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on January 11, 2022 about one month before Steph's diagnoses of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. They have been our true battle buddies throughout the fight and it was so good to see them while they were in town. Thankfully we can celebrate that both Steph and Kristi are clinically cancer free at this time!
It was so great to be home together as a family again after 20 days apart. There is a kind of rest that I didn't realize I was missing when she was in the hospital. We were back to the clinic visits today. This morning for a blood draw and back this afternoon for some infusions and to visit with our transplant team.
Steph's liver and kidneys remain steady and will hopefully improve these next few days as they have her on "holiday" from the diuretic medications. Those will start up again, once her numbers normalize a bit more. The team will have us visiting the clinic daily and will continue to keep a close eye on Steph's liver and kidney functions.
I will be heading back to work (remotely) starting tomorrow! With the chemotherapy and initial transplant itself now in the rearview mirror, I look forward to getting back to work and reading less medical research papers. The focus now is on recovery and that should be a little less mentally exhausting in the day to day... maybe. The kids will be starting up school soon, so things are going to get a little more exciting around here whether we are ready or not!
